Browns are pleased to be awarded the contract to undertake the major refurbishment of the Buxton Swimming Pool. The whole complex is owned and managed by High Peak Borough Council. Both the grounds and buildings are formally recognised by English Heritage and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport for their special architectural interest. Consequently, the Pavilion buildings are listed, grade II, whilst the gardens are registered, grade II*, and the swimming pool lies within a conservation area.
The swimming pool was constructed in the 1970’s and sits between the multi-storey car park, and the Octagon building of the Pavilion.
High Peak Borough Council closed Buxton Swimming Pool in November 2009 for the much-needed facelift and work commenced by Browns on Monday 8th March as planned. Work includes the installation of a modern changing village plus new poolside ceiling and tiling. Essential plant and machinery is also being replaced.
The roof is being replaced and modern insulation introduced to reduce heat loss, condensation and corrosion. The pool is scheduled to reopen before the end of June 2010.
Said Andrew Bingham, Executive Councillor for Social and Community Development: "These major improvements show that we and our partner, DC Leisure, are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles and giving High Peak people the first-rate facilities they have a right to expect these days".
William Murphy – Managing Director at Browns Construction Group Limited said: "Browns Construction Group has a long standing history of undertaking work on swimming pools and leisure facilities, both in terms of refurbishments and new build. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work with High Peak Borough Council on such a landmark project which will provide considerable benefits to the local community".
