Duncan Mathews – Purchasing Manager at Browns Construction Group and his brother are turning sibling rivalry into a fundraising opportunity by going head to head in an all day golf challenge on the 25th June in a bid to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Duncan and his brother, Dave, will captain two rival teams for Macmillan’s Longest Day Golf Challenge, an event that sees golfers take on 72 holes, over 20 miles and 300 shots in a single day in order to raise money for the charity. The brothers will have to tee off at 5.30am and are hoping to lead their teams to victory before nightfall across Ellesmere, Swinton Park, Worsley Old Course and Worsley Marriott Golf Clubs.
Duncan and Dave chose to support Macmillan following the death of their father from cancer. Duncan said “Since my father passed away from cancer we have, as a family, arranged different fundraising events for cancer charities. This year we decided to take on a new challenge and participate in the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan. My dad had a Macmillan nurse at the end of his life and the support they gave to him and our family was fantastic. It’s great to be able to give something back.”
Over the past 4 years, Duncan and his family have raised over £20,000 for cancer charities.
Macmillan’s Longest Golf Day Challenge is a national event aimed at raising funds for the charity by giving players the toughest challenge in golf. Golfers can play their holes over one course or even 4 courses and the grand final of the challenge will see the four top teams getting the chance to play at the Boavista Golf Resort on the Western Algarve in Portugal later in the year. People can take part as single golfers or in pairs, though only teams of 3 or 4 registered will qualify for the prize.
