Then the company was affectionately known
as Browns of Wilmslow, and from 1910,
was located in Station Road until its
move in 2006 to its current headquarters
in new purpose-built offices in Cheadle,
South Manchester.
James Brown, son of founder Levi Brown,
purchased the site as a parcel of land,
which originally belonged to Bollin Hall.
The outbuildings made excellent timber
storage sheds for the Browns business,
which was establishing an excellent reputation
through its joinery workshops.

As the company expanded and the site
developed, the surviving relatives of
James Brown built their houses here, next
to the company's new offices.
The company remained at its Station Road
site for 87 years of its current 147-year
history, and in honour of its heritage,
is naming its brand new offices Bollin
House.
Even the new phone numbers for Browns
will end in 1860, to mark the year of
the company's birth. |
